Foubaba Community High School in West Kwaio, Malaita Province has received new sporting equipment to support and strengthen sporting activities for its students.
The school received a total of eight balls, including four soccer balls and four rugby balls, through support from the Australian Government.
Foubaba Community High School Sports Master, Augustine Lafo, said the new equipment would greatly assist the school in continuing its sporting activities.
He said the school had experienced difficulties organising sports activities because many of its existing balls were no longer in good condition.
“For the past days, weeks and months, we have had balls, but when they were no longer in good condition, we could not properly organise our sports activities,” Lafo said.
He said the donation would allow students to return to regular sporting activities without unnecessary interruptions.
“With the donation of these balls, we will be able to continue our sporting activities without disturbance,” he said.
Lafo thanked the Australian Government for its partnership and support to Foubaba Community High School.
“On behalf of Foubaba Community High School, I would like to thank Australia for this partnership and for donating this sporting equipment. We are very happy to receive this support,” he said.
He said the school would continue organising its normal sporting activities in the coming days and into the future.
The sports equipment was handed over to the school as part of the Australian partnership support to communities and schools in West Kwaio.
Bridgette Cottrill, Second Secretary of the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT), said the sporting equipment would help boost the morale of students and encourage them to participate in sports.
The donation is expected to help keep sporting activities at Foubaba Community High School active by providing students with new soccer and rugby balls for training, recreation and school competitions.
