SYRIAN Biru of Nguvia Community High School clinched his first gold medal in the men’s 5000m event yesterday on day 5 of the National Secondary School Games at Lawson Tama Stadium.
The young lad suddenly has emerged as the latest long-distance star, running a personal-best 17. 94 seconds, whilst Tuvaruhu Community High School’s 10,000 gold medallist, Leon Pusua failed the bid to win him another straight gold medal.
Syrian told Raw Sports that winning medals for the school was his main aim and he was very excited to at least scoop one.
“I was aiming for the 10,000m race but due to lack of proper athletic shoe, I didn’t manage to get the gold but for 5000m, I was ready for it.
“However, I am very excited to at least register a gold medal for my school and that was my aim before kicking off this year’s sporting event,” Biru said.
Biru will also be competing in a 1500m race today where he aims to win another gold medal for his school.
“I hope to scoop at least any medal for team Nguvia in the 1500m race today,” he said.
