SOLOMON Islands weightlifting iron lady, Jenlyn Tegu Wini, will fly the country’s flag at the official opening ceremony of the XVII Pacific Games 2023, which takes place at the National Stadium, Sports City complex, this evening, Sunday, at 7 p.m.
Medal hopeful Wini, a former flag bearer for the Solomon Islands, will represent the country in the 2023 Pacific Games, marking her first time representing the nation at home. She has represented the country in four Pacific Games and is excited about the event, which will begin with the opening ceremony at the newly built National Stadium.
It is an honor for Wini to lead Team Solomon in their March Past in front of over ten thousand spectators at home.
She emphasizes the value of unity and supporting one another over the two weeks of sporting activities by having the honor of carrying the national flag.
Having competed for her nation in four Pacific Games, she expects the 2023 Pacific Games to be thrilling for her as it will be her first time doing so at home.
Wini will assume the position of flag bearer for the sixth time on this occasion. She also carried the flag in the 2012 Olympic Games in London, the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio, the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, the 2015 Pacific Games in Port Moresby, and the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast.
