THE Dural Warriors Futsal Club from Sydney will tour Honiara from Monday 25th to Friday 29th August, playing two friendly matches against the Solomon Islands Kurukuru at the SIFF Academy.
The matches form an important part of the Kurukuru’s preparation for next month’s OFC Futsal Cup Tournament in Suva, Fiji.
The Warriors, one of Australia’s most respected futsal clubs, have a rich history connected to The Centre Church in Dural, where founding figures such as Brian Codrington played a key role in establishing a pathway for players and futsal development in the Solomon Islands.
The club’s strong community values remain central to its identity, and this tour will also see the team engage in school visits coordinated by the SALT (Sports & Leadership Training) Ministry.
Many of the current Dural Warriors squad are former or current Futsalroos, including Ahmed Sweedan and Jake Basden, bringing international quality and experience to Honiara. The team is led by Warriors captain – and Futsalroos captain – Wade Giovenali, and is currently coached by former Futsalroos pivot Blake Rosier, ensuring high-level technical preparation and leadership.
The connection between the Kurukuru and Dural Warriors is also deeply personal. Elliot Ragomo, former Kurukuru captain and Solomon Islands’ most successful futsal player, previously represented the Warriors. During his time in Sydney, Ragomo shared the court with Giovenali and other Futsalroos at Dural Warriors, creating bonds that continue to inspire young futsal players in the Pacific.
Beyond the matches, the Warriors will host an open training session for local coaches and take part in a joint training with the Kurukuru before departure. The program highlights the shared commitment of both teams to developing futsal in the Pacific and building stronger community ties through the sport.
This visit is made possible through the partnership of the Solomon Islands Football Federation, Dural Warriors, The Centre Church, and SALT Ministry, and will provide a valuable test for the Kurukuru as they build towards the OFC Futsal Cup.
The visit will include two international friendlies:

• Thursday 28 August, 6:00 PM – Kurukuru vs Dural Warriors, SIFF Academy
