The Archery Federation of Solomon Islands is celebrating after two coaches and one para-archer completed the World Archery Para Coaching Course in Tonga, according to Federation social media statement.
Coaches Andrew Lano and Janet Saru, together with para-archer Rose Lidia, attended the five-day training from 15 to 19 July. The course combined classroom lessons with practical activities, helping participants learn how to coach para-archers and create adaptive equipment for athletes with different abilities.
The training also included a special competition called OPAL (Oceania Para Archery League), designed by the coaches. The event gave everyone a fair chance to compete while testing the skills they had learned during the course.
Rose Lidia performed strongly, winning the silver medal in the friendly match play competition. Fiji’s Leslie claimed gold, while Vanuatu’s Jeffery took bronze.
The course has given those new skills and confidence to support para-archers at home and they’re excited to share what we have learned and help more people enjoy the sport.
The team returned home on Wednesday with fresh knowledge, practical experience, and new coaching methods to strengthen para-archery across Solomon Islands.
