THE Solomon Island Va’a team is determined to make a significant improvement in future events after an impressive result achieved at last year’s XVII Pacific Games 2023 in Honiara.
Team Solomon Va’a last year wrapped up their inaugural appearance in the XVII Pacific Games with an impressive fourth-place finish in the Va’a men’s open V6 1500 meters at DC Park, east Honiara.
The member of the Solomon Islands Va’a Team, Frazer Kongaiaka’a, told RAW SPORTS that being able to secure the fourth position in the Va’a men’s open V6 1500 meters at the Pacific Games 2023 marks a significant achievement for Team Solomon, considering the hurdles they overcame during their preparation.
He said that with the burning desire to succeed, this tight-knit group of individuals is determined to make a significant impact on the upcoming events.
He revealed that the Solomon Islands’ Va’a team had a significantly shorter training period compared to other competing nations.
“While some countries invested almost two years or more in preparation, Team Solomon had a focused training schedule of just five months. Despite these obstacles, the team demonstrated resilience and determination throughout the Pacific Games 2023.
“We faced challenges with limited training time and facilities, but we managed to reach the final and secure fourth place.
“May I extend my gratitude to the coaches and supporters who rallied behind the team? We thank you for your crucial role in supporting us in the journey,” the athlete from Ontong Java in the Outer Islands of Malaita province said.
He emphasized the importance of having top-notch facilities for training and expressed the need for more time to prepare adequately for future competitions.
“As a team, we are now eyeing future competitions, with a hope for improved facilities and more extensive training periods to enhance our performance on the international and regional stage.
“We are constantly seeking ways to evolve and refine our skills. We believe that even the smallest adjustments can make a significant impact on our performance. Our goal is to leave no stone unturned in our pursuit of excellence,” Frazer said.
As the Va’a team looks forward to their future competitions, their unwavering determination and relentless pursuit of excellence continue to inspire both fellow paddlers and the wider sporting community. Will they emerge triumphant in the upcoming events? Only time will tell, but one thing is certain: the country will be watching the formidable Va’a team closely in future competitions.
