The Besi Youth Association has praised the growing football journey of young Solomon Islands midfielder Carlwin Wane Faiga after his selection for the Solomon Islands Under-19 national team.
Faiga’s selection has brought pride to his family, the Thangiabu tribe and the wider Besi community. His journey is also being seen as an example of what young people can achieve through hard work, discipline and commitment.
The young midfielder is now part of the final squad preparing for the Under-19 qualifying tournament in Samoa. With about one week left before the team’s departure, Faiga said he is working hard to prepare both physically and mentally.
Speaking to Raw Sports, Faiga said improving his mental fitness has been one of his main areas of focus ahead of the qualifiers.
“I have been working hardest on my mental fitness,” he said.
For Faiga, being selected for the Under-19 team is another important step in his football career. He previously represented Solomon Islands at Under-16 level and travelled to Tonga last year for an international competition.
His progress has now given him the opportunity to compete at the next level and represent his country again.

Faiga is also known by the nickname “De Bruyne”, inspired by his admiration for Belgian midfielder Kevin De Bruyne. He said the famous midfielder’s playing style and qualities have influenced his passion for football.
Away from the field, Faiga said the support of his family remains important to his development.
“Personally, my family is the key aspect of whatever support,” he said.
He also spoke proudly about his connection to the Thangiabu tribe, which is his grandmother’s tribe, and the Besi community, which continues to support his football journey.
The Besi Youth Association has welcomed Faiga’s achievement and believes his progress can encourage other young people in the community to take sport seriously.
Faiga also shared a message with young footballers in Besi who dream of playing for the national team one day.
“The important message for my community young talented players, is discipline, committed, and stay away from influences that is not contributed,” he said.
His message highlights the importance of making good choices and remaining focused on personal development.
For the Besi community, Faiga’s selection is more than a personal achievement. It shows that young players can create opportunities for themselves when they combine talent with discipline, commitment and perseverance.
As Faiga and his teammates prepare for their campaign in Samoa, the Besi Youth Association has wished him and the entire Solomon Islands Under-19 team success.
The community will be watching proudly as Faiga takes another important step in his football journey and continues to chase his dream of representing Solomon Islands.
