The Solomon Islands Junior Kurukuru have concluded their futsal campaign at the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games after competing against some of the world’s strongest youth futsal nations.
The Solomon Islands opened their tournament against Paraguay, where the young squad battled bravely before going down 9-2 to the South American side. Despite the result, the players gained valuable experience competing on the world stage.

In their second pool match, the Junior Kurukuru took on Portugal, suffering an 11-1 defeat against one of Europe’s leading futsal nations.

Their final pool match saw them face Morocco, with the hosts securing a 15-1 victory to close out the Solomon Islands campaign.

Beyond competition, the Junior Kurukuru immersed themselves in activities delivered by Athlete365, embracing the unique Youth Olympic Games experience. The programme provided opportunities to connect with fellow athletes and former Olympians, participate in cultural activities, and gain valuable lessons both on and off the futsal court.
While results did not fall in Solomon Islands’ favour, the team displayed commitment, resilience and pride throughout the tournament. Officials said the experience gained in Dakar will be invaluable as the players continue their development and pursue future opportunities in international futsal.

The team also thanked supporters who followed their journey throughout the Games.
“Thank you to everyone who has supported and encouraged the team throughout the tournament. Your support means a great deal to the players and team officials.”
Despite the challenges, the future remains bright for Solomon Islands futsal as the next generation of players return home with valuable international exposure, new friendships, and experience gained at the world’s biggest youth sporting event.
