More than 100 students at Hoffi Primary School have gained valuable lessons on the importance of sports, physical recreation and healthy living through a National Sports Council (NSC) awareness programme held on Friday, November 6.
A total of 111 students and six staff members participated in the initiative, which aimed to educate children on the benefits of sports and physical activity while encouraging healthier lifestyles from a young age.

Students from Grades 1 to 6 attended awareness sessions focusing on three key areas: health and wellbeing, social and community development, and the role of sports in improving learning and academic performance.
The programme also featured a presentation on non-communicable diseases (NCDs) by JICA Volunteer Hitomi Mizutani, who encouraged students to adopt healthy habits early in life to reduce the risks of diseases such as diabetes, high blood pressure and heart disease.
Following the classroom sessions, students took part in outdoor physical activities, giving them an opportunity to put their learning into practice through sports, movement and teamwork.

Hoffi Primary School students participate in physical activities after attending a National Sports Council awareness programme on the value of sports, recreation and healthy living in Isabel Province.
NSC Sports and Recreational Development Coordinator for Isabel Province, Diana Mafuara, said school-based sports awareness programmes play a vital role in helping children understand the value of staying active.
“Encouraging children to participate in sports and physical recreation helps build healthy habits that can benefit them throughout their lives,” she said.

The awareness programme forms part of NSC’s ongoing efforts to promote sports and physical recreation in schools and communities across the country, helping develop healthier and more active future generations.
