A colourful prize presentation was recently held at Uhu village in West Are ‘are, Malaita Province, on Tuesday 17 August 2021 following the successful U14 futsal and U19 netball competition held to mark the Province 38 2nd appointed day Monday 16 August this week.
This year the ward 24 in West Are ‘are Constituency Malaita province have organised under-14 futsal for boys and Under-19 Netball for girls with a total of $ 24,000 been allocated for prizes.
In futsal, according to Ward-24 Provincial Member Hon. Peter clay Taraumae, Waimarau Under-14 team walked away with a first prize of $500 plus a trophy. St Stephen (Aiarai) grabbed the second prize of with $400 in cash and Smart J settled in the third place with SBD$300 cash prize.
Hon. Taraumae highlighted in a phone interview with Rawsport from Auki that all 9 participating teams also received a futsal ball each as participation awards.
“For the Netball, the 1st prize was awarded to St Paul 1 (Uhu) with a cash prize of $500, 2nd – St Michael (Tawairoi) with a total cash prize of $400 and in the 3rd position, St Paul 2 with a cash prize of SBD$300,’’ he said.
Hon. Taraumae further said that the event was marked inclusive of people with special needs represented by 3 individuals namely, Silas Kukuiwasi, Monica Kuki’a and Milio from Uhu village – who were the special guests at the event.
“Each village also appoints 3 representatives which includes, a chief, youth, church leader or women group leader at the event to mark the province’s big day,” Hon. Taraumae said.
The Malaita 38th Second appointed day was marked was marked in all wards in the province with the theme ‘Restorative and economy in the face of adversity’.
