The ceremonial baton of the 2026 Solomon Games has completed its historic journey, arriving at the National Stadium on Sunday 5th of July for the official opening of the country’s premier multi‑sport event.
The baton, escorted by staff of the Solomon Islands National Institute of Sport (SINIS), made one of its final and most meaningful stops at the National Referral Hospital, where patients, medical staff, and visitors were given the chance to see and celebrate the symbol of unity and sporting pride. The visit brought excitement and encouragement to many who could not attend the Games in person.

From the hospital, the baton travelled to the National Stadium, where it was carried in by Solomon Islands para athletes, honouring their strength, resilience, and contribution to national sports. The moment drew loud applause from spectators as the athletes proudly delivered the baton to the main stage.
His Excellency the Reverend Sir David Tiva Kapu, Governor-General of Solomon Islands and Patron of the 2026 Solomon Games, formally received the ceremonial baton. He then delivered the official opening address, declaring the 2026 Solomon Games officially open.
The opening ceremony marked the culmination of the baton’s journey, celebrating sport, unity, and national pride as athletes, officials, and supporters gathered to launch this year’s Games.
