Solomon Islands National Sports Council Taekwondo Head Coach Junior Maetia has acknowledged this year’s taekwondo competition at the Solomon Games as a major success, highlighting the impressive turnout and competitive spirit shown by athletes representing provinces across the country.
He said the overall standard of competition reflected the growing strength of taekwondo nationwide, with athletes demonstrating discipline, skill, and determination throughout the event.

Maetia confirmed that the top-performing athletes in each weight division will now be identified and considered for selection into the Solomon Islands national taekwondo team.
He also revealed plans to recruit several provincial coaches to strengthen the national coaching structure, ensuring wider representation and improved development pathways for athletes.
The Head Coach encouraged all provincial coaches to continue improving their professionalism, including their appearance, conduct, and coaching methods, to align with national standards.

He emphasized that coaching excellence is vital for shaping disciplined athletes capable of representing the country at regional and international competitions.
Maetia appealed to parents and communities to support children in taking up taekwondo, noting that the sport builds confidence, discipline, and respect , values essential for youth development.

He also extended heartfelt appreciation to competition officials for their dedication and hard work in delivering a smooth and successful event.
Maetia congratulated all athletes who participated in this year’s Solomon Games, acknowledging their commitment, courage, and performances.
