One of the country’s athletes in a 5000-meter distance track event, Patrick Kam has stated that he is ready to participate in the Sol2023 Pacific Games.
In an exclusive interview with Rawsports after his daily training session at Lawson Tama last week, Patrick said he is training hard at the moment as he sees it as a way forward for him to participate in any upcoming 5000m track event and especially the Sol2023 pacific games.
“We are still waiting for any schedule from the athletic committee to give us a ‘go-ahead to begin our team training sessions, as we prepare for the Sol2023 pacific games but in the meantime, I am continuing with my own personal training,” He said.
He said that he is focusing his training mainly on 5000m long-distance track events.
In 2016, Patrick scoop a bronze medal for the country at the mini pacific games held in Fiji. He also represent Solomon Island at the Commonwealth Games in 2018, also in the 5000m track event.
“I manage to scoop a Bronze at the Fiji mini pacific games in 2016 in the 5000m long-distance track event, but in 2018, I didn’t get any medal since the competitive level was much tougher,” he said.
In the 2021 Annual Rotary Easter Fun Run held in May, Patrick scoop the Gold Medal for the 5-kilometer race.
Bought up in Visale, North West Guadalcanal, Patrick started participating in athletics events 7 years ago when his interest in athletics started and he dreamed of becoming an athletic runner in his high school days – during which, he was selected to represent Visale Secondary School in a school carnival organized a few years back..
“My interest in athletic begins during my high school days when I was among the few selected to represent Visale Community High school some years,” he said.
Patrick in the meantime acknowledges other athletes who are looking to participate at the upcoming Sol2023 Pacific Games and are currently gearing themselves up in fitness preparations as the countdown continues.
“I call on trainers and coaches to begin early preparations towards the Big Games and please communicate schedules and plans to athletes so that they can be updated early should there be any changes,” Patrick Kam urged.
