THE Solomon Islands Basketball Federation (SIBF) has signed a sponsorship deal with Solomon Power for the Women’s Senior Basketball League in 2024.
Solomon Power CEO Martin Sam said, “Solomon Power is all about nation building”. One of the ways to achieve excellence is through human resources development in various fields, profession and through social activities like sports.
The CEO highlighted, “that besides supplying power for the people, we are also happy to be part of the initiative of uniting Solomon Islands through sports and particularly where young people are involved. Solomon Power is proud to partner with the Solomon Islands basketball federation, in this regard by supporting our young people through this sponsorship”.
He concluded by saying, “that our partnership will go a long way to enhance, and unite young people to realize their potential in basketball in the Solomon Islands”.
Chairlady of the SIBF Women’s League Gloria Hong in response, formally acknowledged the recognition and support by Solomon Power.
Hong stated that this is historic milestone for women basketball because this is the first of its kind in terms of a major corporate sponsorship.
“Your sponsorship would contribute greatly to the growth, development, and overall success of this competition as we aim to represent Women’s Basketball League at higher level and promote healthy lifestyle through this sport, whilst nurturing the talent across all age groups,” she said.
The Chairlady said SIBF is thrilled about the prospect of collaborating with Solomon Power and the valued support in making a positive impact on the Women’s Basket League.
“SIBF is encouraged by the partnership and the recognition by Solomon Power especially in giving the opportunity to our women in basketball to compete in this year’s prestigious competition,” she added.
The Chairlady also explained that basketball had been inactive for quite some time and it is the new board’s priority to revive basketball not only at the senior level but also amongst our youths and children.
“We would like to see more women and girls getting involved in basketball and it is through these kinds of support by Solomon Power that helps to motivate and develop this sport amongst our women,” she further added.
The Women’s League is expected to tip off at the end of July this year, as registrations are now formally open for clubs and teams.
