HAYFORD Roga recently qualified as an OFC Senior C License coach after four years of relentless dedication and hard work.
At 37 years old, he has transformed from a passionate football volunteer in his home province to one of the latest additions to the ranks of certified football coaches.
Now rubbing shoulders with some of the most prominent figures in national league competitions, Roga’s journey began not on a grand stage but with village-based clubs in South Rannogga, Western Province, under the Western Football Association (WFA) umbrella.
Roga’s coaching ambition started at the grassroots level, where he actively participated in provincial grassroots programs. This experience laid the foundation for him to become a certified youth development coach.
His efforts culminated in earning the MA Senior Grassroots Coaching certificate, which enabled him to work with feeder clubs in the Western Cup tournaments.
In 2021, he was appointed to lead the Western Province U14 boys’ team in the Iumi Plei National U14 Championship.
“Back then, it wasn’t about the accolades or recognition,” Roga recalled.
“I just wanted to give back to my community and help the next generation find joy and purpose through football.”
The road to success was far from smooth. Balancing a full-time job with his coaching aspirations required unwavering dedication.
“I pushed myself for this. Having a full-time job but with the passion – I promised myself to get there someday,” Roga said.
To enhance his skills, Roga actively participated in workshops and practical training sessions organized by the SIFF Technical Department.
His commitment did not go unnoticed.
“Roga’s commitment to continuous football education has been remarkable,” said SIFF Technical Director Moses Toata.
One of Roga’s career highlights was leading his home team, South Rannogga, to their first-ever grand final appearance in the recent Western Cup 2024.
“It was the first time for South Rannogga to reach the final in the Western Cup,” Roga proudly mentioned.
Receiving the OFC Senior C License is not just a personal milestone for Roga but a victory for the entire Western Province football fraternity.
This certification places him among an elite group of coaches equipped to develop competitive football teams and nurture talent at a higher level.
“This is a proud moment for our community,” Roga shared.
“I hope this inspires more young people to chase their dreams, whether on the field or as coaches.”
OFC Senior C License is the second in the football license category of courses offered by the OFC Education Center through the SIFF Technical Department.
